Hello everybody, have you ever thought about what will happen right before Jesus comes back? Believers have been pondering this question for thousands of years, and the Bible provides some solid direction. Jesus Himself mentioned four big signs that point to His return being near—and all of these signs are happening right now. These are not just occasional coincidences; they’re like giant neon signs telling us that the end is coming. Curious? Let’s look at what these signs are and why they’re so important.
History Written in the Bible
The Bible is no ordinary history book. It covers everything from the beginning of the world to its very end. No other book can make such a claim because no one was around in the beginning to witness it, and we’re among the few who might see how it all ends. Pretty amazing, right?
However, God gave us a glimpse into the future not just to satisfy our curiosity. He did it so we would be prepared and not freak out about what’s ahead. Jesus made sure we’d know what to expect, so let’s be thankful for that.
Has the Time Come to a Close?
You’ve probably heard people asking, “Are we living in the end times?” The Bible talks about these last days, and technically, we’ve been in the end times for about 2,000 years. These last days started at Pentecost, and since then, every generation of Christians has been on the lookout for Jesus to come back—any day now.
The Bible is packed with prophecies—735 to be exact. And believe it or not, 596 of them have already come true. That’s an 81% accuracy rate! Most of the ones left are about Jesus’ return and what happens afterward. Only about 20 prophecies remain before Jesus comes back, so we’re keeping an eye out for those signs.
Jesus told us to “watch and pray,” but what exactly should we be watching for? It doesn’t mean we should just stare at the sky waiting for Him to show up. It means we need to stay informed about what’s happening in the world and recognize the signs He gave us. These signs are like signals telling us His return is near.
4 Tell-Tale Signs of Jesus’ Return
In Matthew 24, the disciples asked Jesus, “What will be the signs of Your return and the end of the world?” Jesus didn’t leave them guessing; He gave them a straightforward answer. He explained it further in the book of Revelation, but Matthew 24 serves as a quick guide. Here are the four major signs Jesus talked about:
- Disasters Around the World: Jesus mentioned wars, famines, and earthquakes—events that shake the world. These have been happening for over 2,000 years, but they’re becoming more intense. He also warned us about deception, both inside and outside the church. But don’t worry—Jesus said these are like birth pains, indicating that something new is about to happen.
- Changes in the Church: Jesus warned that His followers would face persecution, the church would become smaller, and false prophets would emerge. But He also promised that the gospel would be preached in every nation—and this is happening today. Even though the church might go through tough times, a smaller, more committed group of believers can have a bigger impact.
- Major Events in Jerusalem: Jesus mentioned an event called the “abomination of desolation,” which will take place in Jerusalem. This will be a huge, global event, but it will all unfold in God’s city, Jerusalem.
- Cosmic Signs: Right after the events in Jerusalem, chaos will break out in the sky. The sun will go dark, the moon won’t shine, and stars will fall. These are the final signs that Jesus is about to return. He’ll come in power and glory, appearing in the clouds, and gathering all His followers.
Jesus made it simple by using the example of a fig tree. When you see leaves on a tree, you know summer is near; likewise, when you see these signs, you’ll know His return is close. It’s not a complicated riddle—it’s straightforward. When these four signs appear, the end is near.
