Who Was Jesus Before He Came to Earth? Unveiling the Eternal Word

Did you ever think about who Jesus was before He was born as a man or what His name had been prior to receiving the name “Jesus”? Today, we will be discovering who Jesus was before He came to Earth and His name, as is written in the Bible. Don’t forget to drop a like and subscribe so you stay connected with our future posts.

Understanding the Trinity

Before Jesus was born, we need to discuss the Trinity in order to be able to unravel who He was. The Bible tells about God in three separate persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. They are all God, but they have different manifestations. The Father is the Creator of all things, Jesus is the Savior who took on a flesh body to save humanity from sin, and the Holy Spirit is the Comforter and Empowerment unto believers.

While the word “Trinity” never appears in the Bible, the idea is unmistakably present. For example, if you read Matthew 28:19, you will see where Jesus tells His disciples to immerse believers “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” This verse declares the significance and oneness of all three parts of the Trinity and how they operate as one God.

Jesus as “The Word

In John 1:14, it says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The verse gives us the understanding that Jesus, called “the Word,” became flesh and lived among us. He was not made divine at His birth but was always divine, being part of the eternal Trinity. This is the same Jesus who walked on Earth; He even existed in Heaven before the world was made.

The Name Before “Jesus”

Before coming to Earth, He was not known as Jesus. Instead, He was called “the Word,” a title that connects with creation and God’s communication with humanity. The Old Testament name for God, Yahweh, points to His eternal and omnipotent character. The New Testament frequently equates Jesus with Yahweh, showing His divinity and eternal nature.

Jesus also used the phrase “I Am” in the book of John, which is a reference to the name of God revealed to Moses in the burning bush (Exodus 3:14). By saying “I Am,” Jesus declared that He is the same God who has always existed—the eternal, self-existing One.

Who Jesus Was Before and After He was Born

So, what was Jesus before He was born on Earth in human form? He was God, the everlasting Word, and a member of the Trinity. His birth of a virgin and being called Jesus was just when He arrived in human form to fulfill His mission. He was always God before His incarnation, coexisting eternally with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
