Did you ever wonder what heaven is like? The book of Revelation describes heaven as being more beautiful than anything on earth—streets of gold, pearly gates, and a crystal river flowing from God’s throne. Let’s explore what the Bible says about heaven.
A Place with Many Mansions
In heaven, there are many “mansions” according to Jesus. In John 14:2-3, He said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you.” The word “mansions” can also mean realms or places, suggesting that heaven has various magnificent areas waiting to be explored.
A New Heaven and Earth
Revelation 21:1-4 speaks of a new heaven and a new earth where death, sorrow, and pain will no longer exist: “God will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning.” This new world is filled with God’s presence, bringing eternal joy and peace.
The Heavenly City
In Revelation 21:10-21, heaven is described as the New Jerusalem, a city made of pure gold, with walls adorned in precious stones and gates of pearl. The entire city shines with God’s glory, casting light and beauty everywhere.
The River and Tree of Life
Revelation 22:1-2 mentions the “river of the water of life” and the “tree of life,” which symbolize God’s everlasting provision: “The tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit… and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” Heaven is portrayed as a place of abundant provision and restoration.
Worship in Heaven
Heaven is shown as a place of never-ending worship in Revelation 4:1-11. Elders and creatures around the throne continuously praise God, signifying that heaven is an eternal celebration of His holiness and power.
Life in Heaven
In Revelation 7:15-17, we are assured that in heaven, “they will never hunger or thirst… and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” This means being fully cared for, living in complete peace and happiness in God’s presence.
