Have you ever wondered why God, with all His might, doesn’t simply obliterate Satan right now? If God is omnipotent, why allow evil to continue? The answer lies in God’s broader plan. It’s not just about eliminating evil; it’s about redeeming fallen people through Christ, demonstrating justice, and offering mercy.
God’s Sovereign Plan
Satan exists because God allows it as part of His sovereign plan. God is in control of everything that happens, including evil. This doesn’t mean God causes evil, but He permits it to be used for a greater good. The Bible states that Satan’s fate is sealed (Revelation 20:10). So, why delay his destruction?
The Role of Redemption
God’s plan for humanity is still unfolding. Satan serves to test believers, giving them an opportunity to strengthen their faith. As 1 Peter 1:6-7 says, trials refine our faith, making it more precious than gold. God allows Satan to work so that even his evil actions can lead to spiritual growth and transformation.
Demonstrating God’s Justice
If God had immediately destroyed Satan, the fullness of His justice, mercy, and power would not be revealed. Allowing evil to run its course demonstrates the depth of God’s justice when final judgment comes. 2 Peter 3:9 reminds us that God’s patience is an opportunity for humans to repent.
Satan’s Limited Power
Satan operates within the limits set by God, as shown in the story of Job. He is not equal to God but a created being with restricted power. God even redeems Satan’s actions to accomplish His greater purposes, ultimately showcasing Christ’s victory.
The Time of Waiting
This waiting period also allows the gospel to reach all nations (Matthew 24:14). God’s delay is not indecision; it is an act of mercy, offering people the chance to return to Him.
Living in Victory
Believers equipped with the armor of God are better prepared to stand firm against Satan (Ephesians 6:10-18). Although Satan has been spiritually defeated through Jesus’ death and resurrection, his final destruction is inevitable. In the meantime, we are called to spread the Gospel and reflect God’s love in the world.
